Hematuria

Hematuria is the presence of blood in the urine. Hematuria may be visible to the naked eye or visible only under a microscope and is usually painless. Hematuria is a sign that something else is causing bleeding in the genitourinary tract, kidneys, ureters, prostate and/or urethra.

SYMPTOMS

Sometimes blood in the urine (Hematuria) is the only sign of a disorder. At other times, a variety of symptoms may occur, such as the following:

  • Abdominal pain
  • Decreased urinary force, hesitance, incomplete voiding
  • Fever
  • Frequent urination
  • Pain during urination
  • Pain in the flank or side
  • Urinary urgency

TREATMENT

The treatment of Hematuria ranges from antibiotic therapy to surgery, depending on the underlying cause.
