Hematuria is the presence of blood in the urine. Hematuria may be visible to the naked eye or visible only under a microscope and is usually painless. Hematuria is a sign that something else is causing bleeding in the genitourinary tract, kidneys, ureters, prostate and/or urethra.
Sometimes blood in the urine (Hematuria) is the only sign of a disorder. At other times, a variety of symptoms may occur, such as the following:
- Abdominal pain
- Decreased urinary force, hesitance, incomplete voiding
- Frequent urination
- Pain during urination
- Pain in the flank or side
- Urinary urgency
The treatment of Hematuria ranges from antibiotic therapy to surgery, depending on the underlying cause.
